What is a family visa?
The family visa allows you to join a family member residing in the United Kingdom and grants the right to work for a period exceeding six months, provided that you meet one of the following criteria:
✔Spouse or civil partner;
✔ Unmarried partner in a proven long-term relationship;
✔ Child under 18 years of age whose parents live in the UK;
✔ Parents of children who are British citizens or have settled/pre-settled status;
✔ Close relatives who require care (in certain cases)
from a person who is a British citizen or holds settled/pre-settled status.
Through the family visa, the applicant is granted the right to apply for indefinite leave to remain (permission to stay in the UK indefinitely) after five years of lawful and continuous residence in the country.
Evidence is required regarding:
- The relationship between the applicant and the sponsor;
- The sponsor’s financial eligibility, demonstrating the minimum required income of GBP 29,000 per annum;
- English language proficiency of the applicant at A1 level;
- Other evidence based on the individual case (must be accompanied by a translation into English if the original documents are in a different language).
!!!! Important: The family visa is a different immigration category from the European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS), through which family members can also join.
